REIKI

“The effect of Reiki lies in its simplicity
It is what it is… nothing more, nothing less
It is simple in its practice and theory
It is limitless in its potential”

Reiki is a gentle and safe holistic system of healing that works to balance and harmonise mind, body, spirit and emotions.

What Does The Word Reiki Mean?

Reiki, pronounced 'ray-key', is a system of energy healing originating from Japan. The word Reiki itself translates to mean 'universal life energy' and is based on the belief that life energy flows through all living things.

When this energy becomes disrupted or blocked, it is believed that stress and disease follow.

Reiki practitioners use the universal life energy they have been attuned to, to promote natural healing. Reiki is also a system of healing and spiritual development as taught by Dr Usui, the founder of Reiki.

How Does Reiki Work?

Ki or Life Force Energy runs throughout our bodies through energetic channels or pathways called Meridians. These channels or pathways can easily become blocked through stress, emotions, trauma or illness, causing the body to function less efficiently. Imagine a meridian is like a hosepipe and an illness is like a stone that is trapped in the hosepipe.

High pressure will build in one end and low pressure in the other. Reiki aims to release the stone that is causing the imbalance of pressure and direct the free flow of energy throughout the body to bring about self-healing and normalize the functions of the body.

The joy of Reiki is that it goes to the heart of the problem and works on clearing any blockages and restoring the healthy flow of ki.

What to expect during a Reiki Session?

Before you begin your treatment, your Reiki practitioner will explain to you what the treatment involves. During this consultation, they may ask you why you are seeking Reiki and details of your medical history. Providing as much detail as possible here ensures that they treat you safely and to the best of their ability.

Each Reiki session lasts approximately an hour. The Reiki practitioner will gently place their hands on different areas of your body, although in some cases the practitioner may work slightly off the body.
Please note that no oils are used and there is no massage or manipulation involved. You might experience some mild tingling, pins and needles, pleasant warmth or coolness, or perhaps nothing at all. Everyone is so unique that no two experiences of this beautiful therapy will be the same.

The joy of Reiki is that no special equipment is needed. You can either sit or relax on a couch or a chair. There is no need to remove any clothing (only shoes and glasses and perhaps jewelry if there is a danger of it catching), as Reiki can pass through anything – even plaster casts!

Please note that if you are unable to attend in person Reiki healing can also be sent from a distance. The aim of each session is to gently balance the chakras and the energy field that surrounds the body as well as soothing any physical and or emotional imbalances.

How many sessions will I need?

This varies from person to person. It is important to remember that Reiki healing is a process, and therefore may take a number of sessions. Generally the more chronic and long-term the concern is, the more sessions it will require.
